I love stuffing. I love it so much I made extra this year. A lot extra. Turns out that I am the one person in my house who really loves stuffing. I had no idea. I now find myself with an abundance of stuffing.
Oh stuffing, our familiarity has bred much contempt. Be gone from my home!
Perhaps you find yourself in the same situation? After much brain mapping plus a bottle of Kendall Jackson, I’ve come up with this handy list of recycling ideas for our leftover stuffing.
“Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.” That’s what I always say. Well, not me, but people have said that. It seems reasonable.
Chicken’s list of things to do with leftover stuffing:
- Modern sculpture. I am picturing a replica of the first Thanksgiving constructed entirely out of leftover stuffing
- Poultice. I’m not sure how this would work, but it seems like a fit
- Gesso replacement for the painters out there. Picture an angry stuffing sea. What? You can paint over it, dudes.
- Homemade paper!
- Insulation? You’d need a lot of stuffing. Perhaps if we took up a collection, we could insulate some poor soul’s Hampton cottage
- Facial mask (it’s all organic!)
- Fuel. I’m pretty sure dried out stuffing pellets would light the night and give off a pleasant aroma to boot. In fact, why not grill some salmon on a stuffing plank? Why not?
- Jewelry. I’m picturing feathers and stuffing shaped into little turkeys. So ironic. The hipsters will totally dig them.
- Dog treats. My dog doesn’t want any but dogs that don’t get stuffing might like a stuffing cookie for Christmas. A stuffing filled chew toy, perhaps
- Do you think we could make a fabric out of leftover stuffing? I’m thinking super warm socks
- Thanksgiving scented Candles!!!
- Again, we’d have to take up a collection, sort of like a scrap metal yard, but maybe we could use stuffing to fill potholes here in the Northeast?
- Stuffing drywall seems doable
What will you make with your leftover stuffing?

It sounds like the stuffing needs to change the recipe.
I'm particularly fond of stuffing that contains baked nuts and raisins and even some bacon, add ground meat and wine to make it saucy and they will love it.
Also use it for stuffing peppers or poblano chiles.

Hi Carlos, that all sounds well and good, but I will still need the stuffing I grew up with to quench my Thanksgiving hunger. If you have a good recipe for chile relleno, however, please send it my way. I had one once and I lost it.

Hi Cloudia, You are welcome. I'm sure there are even more things you could do with stuffing in Hawaii. I don't know about you, but I'm thinking volacano appeasement.

There is no such thing as leftover stuffing in our house. Please send us yours. (Besides, up north here, we're halfway between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and stuffing would not go wrong at this time.)
I do find your list well-thought-out, however. I shall keep it for next summer when the zucchini are producing.

No left over stuffing here either. Barely any turkey left over. We pretty much slayed it.

Oh but Jenny, Zucchini and stuffing….two different things. We will need another list come summer. Is it bad that my first thought was porn movie? Also, my stuffing is gone. Used to fill the cracks in our attic where the bats like to sneak in. I'm sorry. I'll be less thoughtless next year.

Hey SS, glad to hear you planned so well with your feast. I'm going to have to work harder to get the hang of that!

Hmmm- I wonder if we could use it for a replacement cattle feed. There's not much leftover around here, though, so I'd have to borrow some of yours!

My sis in law makes some dressing that would work well as cat litter.

We are a stuffing loving family that always makes extra outside of the bird. I love a turkey + stuffing sandwich the next day.

I'm liking the idea of a stuffing poultice. I also think it may work as a repellent of some kind.
Send me a box, and I'll try it on the bus. 🙂

With the addition of some rubbery candied fruit and a splash of rum to kill any lingering turkey pathogens, it could be pressed into brick shapes for a very passable fruit cake – just in time for holiday giving. GG

See, AC? That's what I am missing. The family part. I thought we all loved stuffing but apparently I am alone in my passion.

Pearl!! You know, you could also maybe use it as a hand warmer…or a heat retaining cat bed. Possible Christmas present? 1 extra large box on its way.

OMG GG, that's genius. We could even do a lovely fluted shaped fruit cake. Nobody eats fruit cake anyway and you get the prezi credit…win/win!

I've only discovered a love of stuffing in recent years, but now I'm in–hardcore. And I'd pay money to see a pic of you with a stuffing facial scrub or writing on stuffing homemade paper. BAHA.
On a different note, and to be a bit obnoxious…I wanted to pass on the fact that occasionally, I'm posting to a password-protected blog; I've realized I need to write about my teaching life sometimes, and so that's where I'm posting.
Anyhow, if you have any interest in reading such stuff, here's the latest post (the password for this one is: topics)

The one thing you forget to mention is stuff it into meatballs. I’ve just done that. I tastes good, well, like left-over stuffing stuffed into meatballs.
Edible. Otherwise I’d go for wallpaper paste. The stuffing that gives on giving.

Hi Jocelyn, you'll have to check pinterest for the stuffing facial photos. I'm sure they are there somewhere. Pinterest is like Mikey. It likes everything.

Hi there, Friko. Meatballs you say. Hmmm. Hadn't thought of that one but it sounds plausible. I'm tucking that one away for next year.

Huh. I'm the only one in my home that likes the stuffing. This year I made gumbo with the leftover turkey and my boy declared the stuffing fit for the gumbo, instead of rice. So there's that.

Wait. Turkey gumbo? Served over Stuffing? I'm totally in!
