Did You Say Poetry Monday?

I didn’t have a post today until I stopped at Jenny’s site and she mentioned it was poetry Monday. I think the idea is to write your own poetry but why do that when Billy Collins does it so much better?

Happy Monday, friends.

He is really funny. There are a lot more on YouTube. I chose this one because it was the first of his that I listened to.

Oh my gosh, I love Billy Collins, and this is one of my favorites. My sister met him years ago when he was the Poet Laureate at a poetry reading in Milwaukee and then went out with him for drinks afterwards (with a small group). What a lovely, witty man. Here’s another one of my favorites by him, “Forgetfulness”: https://youtu.be/n-a8ELOVig4

Thanks Paulette-wow that must have been incredible for your sister. I would have loved that. He’s very dry. Another favorite of mine is Litany.

But also, as a mom – I treasure the silly gifts my sons made for me.

That poem is sooo good. There, I leaned on my creative spelling to avoid using an exclamation mark.
So I will see your excellent Billy Collins and raise you a Taylor Mali, but a different one than left at Jenny’s place:

Hi Doug! I see you are in solidarity with Jenny’s attempts at good writing. I’m clinging to my exclamation points, though. For now. I’ll see how it goes with you and Jenny. I’m not familiar with Taylor Mali-I’ll take a look and get back to you:-). !!. 😉

Okay, the link didn’t take me to it but I’m listening to “The Impotence of Proofreading” and it’s hilarious. Which one were you trying to direct me to? Thanks Doug.

The link I used was to “Like, You Know”, but pretty much all of his stuff is good. Especially the one about Tony Steinberg and the one titled “What Teachers Make”, but he also has a couple of darker ones about the suicide of someone close to him. Very entertaining guy.

Also, Doug, I listened to one he wrote on inauguration day. It was serious and also good. Mention it just because it’s new and you might not have seen it

I haven’t seen it. (Damn, that’s another place where I would have used an exclamation point.) I’ll check it out, thanks for telling me about it.
